Despite the wacky weather week we’ve had we still manage to keep busy and pull off some awesome tattoos. Below are a couple of tattoos that Jeremy, Derrek and Matt did in these past days.

This is Kevin’s first tattoo a pretty sweet Salamander done by Jeremy.

One of our good friends got this dead rockabilly girl, done by the Derrek in one whole sitting.

Matt hooked up Dilusha from Australia with this sweet sugar skull.

November, Friday the 13th, I will attempt to beat the world record of ‘most tattoos done in 24 hours.’ I have learned that the actual number to beat is 801 tattoos set on Nov. 17, 2008 by Hollis Cantrell. That is an incredible amount of tattoos to do in 24 hours. I began to wonder if I should still do this. I have no doubt that I can beat the 801. If someone else has done this amount then I can too. I was just begining to wonder if it was something I needed to do. A lot of you that know me…know that I am wildly determined…with an “I’ll Sleep when I’m dead” attitude. However, as of now I’m still on the fence. I will continue to take registrations from people. If I can reach 500 registrations in the next month, then I feel the momentum will be there. I have also learned that you can put as many tattoos on any one individual. Hollis put 75 tattoos on one mans back. It should be one tattoo per person. But thems the rules so that’s cool. This is twice the amount of tattooing I had anticipated. Instead of one tattoo every three minutes (that was what I thought the original record was). It’s every minute and a half. Abiding to the rules of Guinness the tattoo must be 1.25 x 3 inches and have a minimum of two colors. I will offer 4 different designs. A bat. A heart with wings. The letters ‘LA’. And the number ‘13′ (for Friday the 13th) you can get one or all of these designs. The first design will cost $20…2 designs will be $30…3 designs will be 40…etc.So, October is the month of momentum! A vehicle that needs to gain speed. I need YOUR feedback and support. Tell everyone you know to get in on it. Register by emailing info@brokenarttattoo.com. Make the commitment to come to Broken Art Tattoo Friday the 13th and let’s bring this record back to LA.Cheers,J. Swan

Well, all good things must come to an end. Our Korean connection YUSHI has left Broken Art Tattoo to embark on his own. It was an awesome experience working with him and we all learned a lot from each other. I still have an entire back piece to finish with him so I know I will be spending a few hours in his new studio. If you have any unfinished work from Master Yushi then you can contact him through his website, yushitattoo.com It was good working with you Yushi. Good luck. Jeremy Swan

Kat Von D’s First annual MUSINK Convention
What a weekend. February 22, 23, and 24th was a non-stop tattoo frenzy at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The night of the 20th I got a call from Roxan…telling me there was a last minute cancellation and she asked if I wanted the spot. So I took it. I had always been very anti-convention and had never worked one before. The last one I went to left a bad taste in my mouth.
Thursday night was set up…Derrek and I went out and checked out the scene, set up, met the neighbors and went home. Friday morning I started tattooing at ten in the morning at my shop in LA. I made it to the convention at 6 that night and it was slow going. No work. So I sat Derrek down and finished off his rib piece. That got some attention.
Saturday Musink was sold out. I had a sign up list and was working away. I did a portrait of my main man Jesus…I free-handed a rose and skull on a hand, and finally, a first time tattoo for a young Japanese kid who got a little grim reaper on his wrist. Half-way through the day Derrek went and entered his rib piece…He came back a winner and handed me the 1st place plaque for Best Traditional Tattoo. Thank you judges.
With the plaque on my table the next day I was busy from the minute the gates opened. I did a bunch of little traditional tattoos to start, then, a treble clef with some roses…and finally a heart and dagger with a Bengal tiger head.
Well it was a great time…I caught up with some old friends and made some new ones…Thea, Dixon, Andy and Ryan of American Graffiti.
Regards,
Jeremy Swan
p.s. dont forget to contact the shop for your limited edition Musink t-shirt
